ABOUT THE AWARDS
Originally established by the Association in 1981, these awards
acknowledge the contributions made by professionals at both
two and four-year institutions of higher education. The awards
are presented at the VSSC conference at Wintergreen Resort
each November.

The New Professional Awards are presented to staff
members who have five or fewer years of experience in
the field.
The Outstanding Professional Awards are presented to
individuals with more than five years experience.
The Outstanding Contribution to VASPA Award
recognizes individuals, specific programs or offices, or
entire institutions that have significantly enhanced the
field of student affairs in Virginia.

ELIGIBILITY

The nominees for the awards should exhibit the following
qualities:

Are vitally concerned with students, relate well to them
and have their respect and confidence.
Are those who have shown exceptional judgment and
creativity in addressing current issues and problems.
Are active leaders and effective administrators on their
campuses.
Are contributing to the literature and research in their
fields of expertise.
Are active and concerned participants in their
professional associations.
